The “Grand Dame” of Martha’s Vineyard, Since 1891

When the Harbor View Hotel opened in 1891, it ushered in a new era for Edgartown and Martha’s Vineyard. Wealthy New Yorkers would come to the Harbor View to summer on the Vineyard, eat their meals on the American plan and enjoy the extraordinary view of Edgartown Harbor from the hotel’s broad veranda.

The hotel was faced with 100,000 cedar shingles imported from New Brunswick and offered guests the modern conveniences of the day, including a single telephone line and gas lights. Soon, the hotel gained a reputation as the “Grand Dame” of Vineyard hotels.

For generations, the Harbor View Hotel has welcomed families to Edgartown and the Vineyard, building an extremely loyal following of returning guests.

Scout Real Estate Capital, a Nantucket-based real estate company focused on sophisticated leisure properties for Baby Boomers, acquired the Harbor View Hotel in December 2006. 

The Historic Kelley House, is a casually comfortable sixty room inn, is the Harbor View Hotel and Resort’s sister property in the heart of Edgartown on Martha’s Vineyard.

The Kelley House opened for business in 1742, 100 years after the first Europeans settled on Martha’s Vineyard. Originally a tavern, it prospered through the Revolutionary War and the whaling era that followed, offering generations of weary sailors a welcome respite from the challenges of life at sea.

Today, the Kelley House is a beloved Vineyard destination, ideally located just a short walk from Memorial Wharf and the harbor. The property includes the popular Newes from America pub, a favorite Edgartown gathering spot. Guests at the Inn are able to enjoy the Water Activities and Kids Program offered at the Harbor View Hotel &  Resort.

The Kelley House welcomes guests May through October.
