How To Get To Martha’s Vineyard

Driving Directions | By Ferry | By Airplane | Hotel Address

To get to Martha’s Vineyard you either take a ferry boat ride (with or without a car) or fly. There is no bridge to the Island. If you are bringing your car to the Island, you MUST have a ferry reservation! While it is possible to call up to one hour prior to sailing time to reserve a space for your car it is highly unlikely during the season to find an open spot; We strongly suggest placing your Steamship Authority Reservation as soon as your hotel reservation is confirmed. "Stand-by" reservations are no longer accepted. If you drive, you can park on the mainland in one of the Steamship Authority parking lots and walk-on to the ferry as a passenger. When the lot at the Steamship terminal in Woods Hole is full, additional parking is available at three off-site lots in Bourne and Falmouth. Shuttle service is provided to the ticket terminal and ferry dock, but you need to allow extra time.

Driving Directions to Woods Hole, Massachusetts

From Boston:  Take Route 93 south to Route 3 south towards Cape Cod. Before crossing the Sagamore Bridge, take the ramp before the Sagamore onto Route 6, towards Bourne/Bourne Bridge. Route 6 takes you along the Cape Cod Canal toward the Bourne Bridge. Once you've crossed the Bourne bridge, you will come to a rotary. Take the second right off the rotary onto Route 28 South towards Falmouth/Woods Hole.

From New York:  Take Interstate 95 North towards Providence, Rhode Island. At Providence, take Interstate 195 east towards Fall River, MA and New Bedford, MA. Continue on I195 for approximately 45 miles. Take Exit #22A, marked State Route 25 east towards Cape Cod and the Islands.

At this point you are approximately 10 miles from the Bourne Bridge. Continue straight and cross the bridge. Once you've crossed the bridge, you will come to a rotary. Take the second right off the rotary onto Route 28 South towards Falmouth. As you enter Falmouth, start watching for signs indicating the "Vineyard Boat". There may be electronic signs directing you to either the Palmer Avenue parking lot or other satelite lots. If the signs are not "on" due to off-season, follow the signs, curving through Falmouth and ending at the Woods Hole Ferry Dock gate.

At either location, there should be someone at the checkpoint to direct you to the current parking area. The attendants will tell you exactly where to park. Also, both lots have a shuttle bus that picks up ferry passengers in the lot and drops them off at the Ferry Terminal. You'll need to purchase round trip ferry tickets at the ticket counter inside. The ferry trip is about 45 minutes.

During high season, the ferries use both terminals on the Island. You could arrive at either Vineyard Haven or Oak Bluffs. In either place, taxis will be holding to take you to your destination. The hotel is in Edgartown; about 7 miles from Vineyard Haven and 5 miles from Oak Bluffs.

When driving off of the ferry you will head straight for just a few yards and then you will have to take a left. Continue approximately 1/4 mile, bearing slightly left and take a left onto Edgartown/Vineyard Haven Road. You will see a sign indicating Edgartown is about 7 miles. Stay on this road.
