Vanguard Club 420 14’ centerboard sail boat
The Club 420 is a 14’ sloop rigged, mono hull centerboard planning dinghy, which is the most commonly used boat in junior sailing plus high school/colligate racing programs across the US. Quick to rig and get on the water, the 420 is a fast and responsive boat that uses your body weight, positioning, and sail trim to control, giving you an immediate feel for the boat. The 420 is equipped with a spinnaker sail and a trapeze for performance instruction/race coaching, and is available for charter for the Edgartown Annual Jr. Regatta with a set of racing sails.
Learn to sail is taught with an instructor on board with 1 or 2 students, depending on their size. A physical and fun boat to sail, the 420 will deliver an enjoyable time on the water whether enrolled in a lesson, cruising the harbor or sailing to Cape Poge Beach.
J 24 Sailboat 24’ Keelboat
The J 24 is a 24’, one design sloop rigged keelboat, that is stable, responsive, comfortable and easy to rig and sail, providing an ideal teaching platform for instruction at all levels. Designed as a day sailor and a racer, the J 24 offers speed and performance, giving the student an incredible feel for the boat and shortening the learning curve.
Either with the Vanguard or the J 24 we will teach you to sail with one of our US Sailing Certified Instructor. Lessons are personalized, one on one instruction with the curriculum customized to your ability and skill level. The Vanguard is ideal for beginners and can take up to two students at a time. The more experienced sailor might want to work on their new found skills with the J 24 with lessons up to five students at a time. Enjoy the day sailing through Edgartown Harbor, Cape Poge or sail to the other side of the Island.
INTRO TO SAILING
Aboard the J 24 or the Vanguard 420
These one hour lessons are designed to introduce you to the sport of sailing. Feel what it’s like to harness the wind and steer the boat with the tiller in hand. The curriculum focuses on wind awareness, how a tiller and rudder works, parts of the boat, steering a straight course and tacking. Instructor is on board.
Sailing Time: 1 – 2 hours.
LEARN TO SAIL Course
Aboard the J 24 or the Vanguard 420
Sailing is a lifelong sport that is exciting yet peaceful and gives you the freedom to explore the world. We have designed a Two Day Learn to Sail Course to teach you the basics of sailing and making you comfortable on the water. Learn wind awareness, how to leave and return to the dock, how to steer the boat to a destination, the roles of a crew, points of sail, sail trim and some basic sailing knots.
Price range seasonally: $450 - $650 per person, per course
Sailing Lessons: 2 days and 4 hours per day
SAIL TO VINEYARD HAVEN
Aboard the J 24
Learn about trip planning, coastal navigation and Sailing to a destination with an adventure sail to or from Vineyard Haven Harbor from Edgartown aboard a J 24. The Instructor with show you how to read a navigational chart, plot your course, understand tidal currents and provide instruction during the 8 mile trip. Once in Vineyard Haven, you may go ashore, explore the town then take a taxi back to Edgartown, or we will arrange for a ride to the Harbor View Dock on the water with our center console a Scout.

Aboard the J 24
Just a mile from the Harbor View dock is one of the most beautiful, secluded beaches perfect for swimming, sunbathing and walking the beach. Take the tiller and sail the boat to Cape Poge or kick back and let the Instructor do the work. Once in the Bay, anchor the J 24, go for a swim then enjoy your picnic lunch at anchor. This trip is ideal for families or couples.

SUNSET SAIL
Aboard the J 24
Finish off the perfect Vineyard Day watching the sun set over the water while under sail. Enjoy a Vineyard Sunset sailing in the outer harbor as the sky lights up with color and the sun goes down in the sea. This is a perfect escape for couples and possibly for that special occasion.
Reservations are required for all sailing lessons and will be accompanied with one of our US Sailing Certified instructors. We require that all individuals must be 10 years of age or older. We will provide soda and bottle water as refreshments and performance weather gear to keep you warm. Please contact concierge if you would like to have a lunch to take with you while sailing. Lunches are an additional cost above the sailing price.
